Raquel Forner: A Universal creator

The Ralli Museum pays tribute to Raquel Forner (1902–1988), one of Argentina’s most influential artists. Breaking away from conventions, Forner forged a singular artistic path, transforming her oeuvre into a space for protest, reflection, and rebirth.

From destruction to cosmic vision, Forner channelled the pain of war into canvases that stand as a powerful affirmation of humanity’s capacity to start anew. Beginning in 1957 with the “Moon Series” (Serie de las Lunas), her gaze elevated, fusing the human with the cosmic. This gave rise to the astro-beings, astronauts, and mutant figures.

Her chromatic language intensified after 1965: blacks and greys conveyed terrestrial pain, while blues, reds, and yellows represented astral beings, hope, and the future. From 1972 onwards, the mutants evolved to embody goodness, and the feminine nourished her entire universe. Until the end, Forner continued to create “new beings,” a testament to her unshakeable faith in humanity’s capacity for transformation.

The Ralli Museum holds the privilege of exhibiting its own collection, a valuable ensemble that spans the artist's different working periods. Here, Raquel Forner reveals herself in all her strength: a universal creator who made art a space for resistance, memory, and hope.
