Enrique Campuzano

Campuzano was born in 1948 in Iquique, Chile. A self-taught artist, and the son of a Spanish father and a Chilean mother, he settled in Santiago in 1970 in search of new perspectives.

Between 1963 and 1969 he carried out numerous designs for theater, one of his great passions. For economic reasons he had to work in banking and administration. However, in order not to abandon his artistic vocation, he decided to study a variety of disciplines in professional institutions.

In 1978 he took private lessons with the painter Ladislas Cheney, who urged him to focus on painting. In 1984 he attended a seminar called “Critical Painting Workshop”, taught by the painter José Balmes. He also studied Nude Sketching in the Alhambra Palace in Santiago.

"My painting is realistic. It is neither hyper nor magical. I have not been tempted by the easy path to copy photos. I compose my models, draw and paint, while observed by the living and dead masters who pass through my workshop. My painting runs its own course while awaiting the Final Judgement."
